THE GENESIS
Since its origins in the previous century, Laurent Dehors' orchestra has developed a singular style of music that's unclassifiable, ranging from contemporary jazz to contemporary and improvised pop-music. But there's always an element of inventiveness and daring in this music, with a willingness to question codes in the pursuit of new sounds, timbres and colors.
The Tous Dehors orchestra, the "big orchestra", made up of a dozen or so musicians, has seen the creation and broadcasting of landmark concerts in recent years, including: La flûte enchanté, Les sons de la vie with symphony orchestra.
Laurent Dehors then turned his attention to more modest forms, due to a lack of technical, organizational and financial resources.
Today sees the return of the Grand Orchestre ! The first stage of the adventure began in 2021 with the creation of a Research Lab, made possible by DRAC Normandie.
This meeting, bringing together historic members, "senior" artists and, above all, young musicians fresh from the Conservatoire National Supérieur, has given birth to a new concert: OK BOOMER. All are driven by the desire to work in a spirit of multi-cultural openness, to go further and push back the boundaries.
The idea behind OK BOOMER is to renew the repertoire. The emphasis this time is on brass instruments: 2 trumpets are added to the tuba and two trombones. There are also new instruments in the form of flutes and a double bass.
THE PROJECT
OK BOOMER is a concert with 13 musicians. It premiered on September 17, 2022 at Chapelle Corneille, Rouen, with l'Etincelle.
This creation is the second part of a special day that began with a stroll through the heritage setting of Rouen's Chapelle Corneille. A sound journey was created from solo to tutti, taking advantage of the acoustics of the site and all the niches and nooks of the chapel with various happenings.
Supported by Ministère de la culture / DRAC de Normandie / Région Ile-de-France / SACEM
Partnership: L'Étincelle - Théâtre de la ville de Rouen
CD release: May 19, 2023
